Experience Jodhpur
Often referred to as the blue city, it is the second largest city of
Rajasthan which is renowned for its majestic forts and palaces. Located on
the edge of the Thar desert, Jodhpur skyline is dominated by the imposing
Mehrangarh Fort. Surrounded by high walls on all sides, the innumerable
bastions of the city give a feeling that it is always alert for any sort of
event. Jodhpur was once the capital of Marwar and it was founded by Rao
Jodha, head of the Rathore Rajputs. The city has a pretty even spread of the
palaces, forts and temples throughout the city. Therefore, even if you go

» Mehrangarh Fort : This fort is one of the largest
forts in India and is located on a steep hill. There are numerous palaces
within the fort which narrate a saga of a rich royal past. The view of the
city as seen from here is magnificent.
» Jaswant Thada : It is a royal monument which was
built in white marble with a view to pay homage to Maharaja Jaswant Singh
II. The place also has rare portraits of various rulers of Jodhpur. You'll
have to interact with the villagers nearby to see that these rulers are
revered by these villagers till today.
» Umaid Bhawan Palace : This palace was built with a
view to provide employment to the people of Jodhpur during a long drawn
famine. Today the palace has become a signature of the city of Jodhpur. The
Jodhpur royal family still lives in a part of the palace. Another portion of
it has been turned into a museum where almost every notable thing about the
royal family has been put on display for the benefit of the people and the
tourists.
